Stage set for ‘Legendairy’ grand final day

Clubs will be vying for ‘Legendairy’ status when they do battle in tomorrow’s inaugural Alex Scott and Staff West Gippsland Football Netball Competition grand finals.

Matches take place at Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve and will showcase a new partnership between the competition and Dairy Australia, which celebrates the connection between the dairy industry and the local community.

AFL Gippsland Region General Manager Travis Switzer said the new partnership was a perfect fit for the first-year competition.

“Many of the towns in the WGFNC have very strong ties to the dairy industry with football and netball clubs an integral part of those towns,” Switzer said.

“The Grand Final is this competition’s major event of the year and Dairy Australia’s involvement will add another dimension to what is already set to be a great family-focused and fun atmosphere.”

Dairy Australia’s Community Project Manager Natasha Busbridge said strong ties between the dairy industry and local communities was vital.

“We are extremely grateful for what the towns in the Gippsland region do for the dairy industry,” Busbridge said.

“We also recognise the crucial role that football netball clubs have in their local towns, and their role as a central hub for sport, social and community development.”

Dairy Australia is the national service body for the Australian dairy industry and its Legendairy program celebrates dairy farmers and their communities.

“This partnership will help us in supporting local dairy farmers, as well as allowing us to participate with regional communities and highlight the contribution the dairy industry makes at a local level,” Busbridge said.
